Amsterdam

One of many canals in Amsterdam

The day after Christmas, we drove to Amsterdam. While there we visited the Rijkmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Anne Frank House. Here are a few photos from our trip.

Photos of bikes along the canal

Bikes are HUGE in Amsterdam. They are EVERYWHERE. Bike lanes were more dominant than sidewalks or roads. What I didn't see, was a lot of bike safety. Not one bike helmet. Not one bike trailer. Kids were on bike seats (not that those are bad, but without helmets,) both front and behind parents. I saw one man with a baby in a car seat attached to the back of his bike, while a toddler was riding in front of him. Someone else had a child in the seat behind them, and was just holding another child under his arm, while peddling. Dogs were in bike baskets, including a LAB!

Red light district (we had to walk through it once!)

I love B&W pic! Looks like a fun trip!

I have a big peve about not wearing helmets. Mostly because I worked in conjuction to a brain injury clinic and now exactly what the ramifications are of not wearing a helmet. It's just stupid not to. Bottom line. I know drivers in Amsterdam must have more of an awareness of bikers, but still.

Looks like a beautiful city (minus the light district) did you like it?

Wow....they actually still use RED LIGHTS. How weird that that is legal! Beautiful photos of the canals--the light in the first one is great! I am so glad that you get to go see all these cool places. I am just amazed by how much you have done in Europe. What an experience!
