Not the REAL procrastinator

I mentioned previously that I am a procrastinator. But, I'm not the only one.

Two weeks ago, I went through all of Ashlyn's old baby stuff. I separated gender neutral stuff and the stuff that was too summery. I washed everything that would definitely be usable and put it all away in the baby's room. I also pulled out baby toys, including the swing and bouncy seat, and tested them with new batteries. Allen asked why I was doing all of this so early. He thought I should wait until the day before I was scheduled to have the baby. I tried to explain to him that I could have this baby at any moment.

Our crib has a few pieces (bolts or something) missing, so it hasn't been the best the past few months that Ashlyn has been sleeping in it. Plus, it was converted to a toddler bed and is on the lowest height. Of course, now we need it to be at its highest with a crib rail. I also bought a canopy for the crib. I asked Allen to just put up the canopy when he fixed the crib. He said he thought that was a good job to save for my dad to help. I tried not to stress as I asked "You're going to wait until my dad gets here?" Allen said that my dad was going to need some projects. I don't want to complain about it, especially since I know the chances of the baby actually sleeping in the crib the first few weeks are practically nothing. In my head I'm still thinking "The crib has to be ready BEFORE the baby is born."

This has me thinking back to when Ashlyn was born. I had a few projects I wanted Allen to do before he deployed. He just told me that he would do all of them while he was on leave. This is what Allen did on his paternity leave:

Aw, those pictures are so sweet. Looks like he got plenty of sleep with a newborn. Lucky dad!

With Daniel (my first) I didn't even have a crib till he was about 3 months old. Couldn't decide what I wanted. There wasn't a lot available up here in Fairbanks and I wasn't the skilled online shopper 4 years ago that I am now. ;)

Sounds like you are really on top of things. Time for baby to show up... What are you going to do if he is a boy? Do you have any boy clothes yet?

I know what you mean,Angie...even if the things CAN be done later...HOW IN THE WORLD can you bring a baby home without the crib and canopy prepared??!! Allen should know better!!

If it makes you feel ANY better...Allen has NEVER gotten up to do what we asked him when we asked him.....since he was old enough to GET UP!! But, of course...you already knew that...

YOu freaked me out there. I scrolled down to the pictures adn thought you had the baby. I completely started to panic. She can't have the baby early. She need to have a C-section... Heart still racing.

Don't freak me out again! (said with love)

After I have read the post I have calmed down. I have enjoyed looiking back on all our memories with baby Ashlyn. How fast she's grown. I know we keep saying this but I must tell you again. I miss you!

How beautiful babies are. I almost started to freak out a little thinking you may have baby already, happy you are still holding it in, and not happy Allen is so much like Brad - if it can be done tomorrow - why do it today? I should get it on a t-shirt for them. Brad does not know the meaning of hurry up. Probably as he is always so well prepared for everything. Joy - if you are reading this hope you are recovering well - am in QLD with parents so out of contact for a while other than blogs and figure you check Angie's a fair bit.

Are you feeling like it is a boy still? what are names you are thinking of? I love the name Emmett and Finn for boys and Brad likes Henry. For a girl - we still both like Maggie Grace - but other names that i think are great for a girl are Victoria & Melika.

love Christal

Angie...
Chad did the same thing w/ both girls when they were born. I think the labor really wore him out! Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year.

I think it was great he used his time bonding with Ashlyn. The projects waited just fine for your Dad and Allen's Dad.

I'm really not complaining that he spent so much time holding Ashlyn (he also comforted her when she was screaming and changed most of her diapers.) I just thought it was funny that he thought he was going to get so much done that was non-baby related.

Great pictures!!

Lila and Liv slept in my Arm's Reach co-sleeper for 4.5 months. But, I do know how good it feels to have a baby room finished before the baby is born. When you decide to get the baby out of your room, you don't need the stress of not having it done. But, I'm sure it'll get done before then.
