Your thoughts

Since we have a new baby coming, who will need the crib where Ashlyn is currently sleeping, I am in the planning stages for a new quilt for Ashlyn's new big bed. I have less than 6 months to make a full size quilt and a toddler size quilt. Aaaaah! For serious quilters, this would probably not be a big deal, but for me, it is. Anyway, I am online looking at different fabrics. A couple of the girly fabrics that I really love are featured often for nurseries. I do not want to make a quilt for Ashlyn that is babyish. I don't mind if it looks like a little girl, since I am sure I will want to change things again long before she is a teen. Anyway, do you think pink gingham or toile are too babyish? I'm not planning on making the whole quilt in either one, but I was considering using them as accents.

Ugh. I haven't found a decent fabric store here, and while I think online shopping is the way to go for EVERYTHING else, I would much prefer to be in a fabric store. Touching the fabric. Placing fabrics next to each other. Finding inspiration.

Is it going to be patchwork squares or what pattern have you decided on? I like the toile myself. You see so much adult stuff in that design that, depending on the other fabics, it wouldn't be hard to make it look girly as opposed to babyish.
I bet Ashlyn is getting excited about her big girl bed & I'll send good sewing thoughts your way!

Why don't you let Ashlyn pick it out? Let her touch each of the materials and ask her which one she likes. Just an idea since I know you really don't want input...it's kind of like you're thinking out loud through your postings. That's not a complaint - just an observation.

No, I really do want input. I know that you aren't going to determine my design, but I would like to know if those fabrics are too babyish.

I adore toile. It is a very grown up fabric, in my opinion. Gingham is more little girly, so I think using them both together would actually be perfect!

I still wish I had done Becca's whole nursery in toile. I really wanted to do black and white toile with pink accents.

I agree with the toile - I think it would look great for a little girl.

I agree with both! Hayes is 7 and still has gingham curtains. Even though I know it's time for something new for him, it's worked for the last 4 years! And, then if you used the toile as well, it'll last even longer. Just go with what you like when you're at the fabric store. Can't wait to see it!

Brown and teal, turquoise, seafoam, colors like that seem pretty popular right now. Also, these colors are gender neutral, in case you want to use them for the new baby too.

I like pink....whatever you do in pink is great! I do like the idea of toile. It is one that she can grow with.

I think they will both be great.

Sorry this is so short. I have had a lot to catch up on and am on blogger overload.
