And the Toys Have Taken Over

This is a picture of our playroom, er, living room. Our living room was pretty small to start. I am now wanting a much larger house for the three of us. We certainly don't have room for another child and all of the things that we would need back in the house for a baby, like a swing, bouncy seat, and exersaucer. Since I took this picture, I went through the baskets and pulled out all the toys that don't get a lot of play time. This didn't eliminate much, really. Oh, moving things to Ashlyn's room won't work. First of all, it is upstairs, and we don't spend all of our time up there. Plus, her room is tiny. I have her upstairs toys in our bedroom. At this point, I am considering either putting low shelves on either side of the entertainment center or getting rid of the futon in the office and moving toys in there. What do you suggest?

Both are good solutions. I like getting rid of the futon. That way when you are working on school or talking to Allen Ashlyn can play ,play, play. The reality is she will most likely want to be on the PC too though. It is worth a try. [Additional solution: You could put most of the toys in the closet and bring some out on a rotation basis. You could have a box of clothing for her to try on one day and then blocks and music the next. Just an example.]

From the S***hole in the desert to Eden - I guess one's attitude can't get any better than that! Unless of course you were leaving Eden aka the S***hole in the desert. (Please don't be offended - I am not making a reference of the Biblical Eden). Back to the problem of toy clutter - spreading out and removing the futon sounds good. The dinning table could be backed against the far wall to make some space next to the kitchen - Ashlyn seems to like to hang out in that area too. (Wait until she bakes cookies with Grandma - Ashlyn will never leave the kitchen!). The rotation plan is an excellent idea - but the problem will be closet space!

I love your house! That room looks bright and fun for a kid.

I don't think shelves will really help, because everything will just be out all over the floor anyway...and if you put them in the office, I'm guessing they will be dragged out to their current positions! I'm really helpful, aren't I? I'm trying to learn to just embrace the toy explosion! I vote for the closet/rotation thing!

I was referring to the biblical eden, since it should be around here somewhere, right? This is the "Holy Land." I saw Jesus' baptismal site when I was in Jordan last year.

I am convinced that both Eden and any sites that Jesus may have visited have been reduced to metaphors. Good (in Jordan) for tourism, bad (in "Eden") for Everybody. No doubt your ass is in the "s***hole in the desert" but keep your head in "Eden" (metaphorically speaking of course). Now I have probably offended somebody. I better stop while I'm ahead!
