Questions

Why is Ashlyn up every hour or two during the night after missing a nap? Why does this baby think she should be up for the day at 3:45? Why after crying nearly non-stop for over an hour does she immediately stop crying when she gets her way? Why is she crying now?

Oh, after crying for over an hour, Ashlyn didn't look too great, either. Hopefully, tonight will be better. She did nap today at least.

Hi, Angie!

My mom sent me your blog link. Hope that's okay! Ashlyn is beautiful. Aaron and I have a six-month-old named Gracie-- I can't wait to see her do what Ashlyn is doing now! The first words are going to be SO exciting...

On the sleep thing-- there's a book called "healthy sleep habits, happy child" that is teaching me a TON about children's sleep patterns. Here's my best guess based on what I've read:

When babies are overtired, their bodies produce adrenaline and similar chemicals to help them stay awake and "fight" the sleep instinct. If a baby fights sleep during the day, at night her body's still all full of those substances. That's why they wake up so often.

(So, as I understand it, there's really no easy solution if they've missed a nap-- it's just gonna suck.)

Take care! I'll be back to check in on you!

Of course I don't mind if you are on the blog. It's online, so I don't assume these are private thoughs. I've read that book, too. Do you like it? I found some of the stuff in it kind of offensive. I think many child sleep books are kind of like that, in "if you don't agree with us, you are a bad parent" way. Not that I didn't agree with some of it, and I do some of the things it said, just not all. It is probably right about the sleep thing. Ashlyn always sleeps better at night, when she has napped during the day. The other night was so terrible, though. She really isn't wanting to nap now, either. I may have to give up. We've been working on it for more than two hours.

I've read that same book, too. I liked it because I thought it was less rigid than others. I can't seem to get Becca to only take two naps. She takes about four really short ones. Why is it so hard to figure this crap out??? I'm sorry about all the crying. THere is nothing worse than that!
