Weekend in Salzburg

The weekend after Thanksgiving, we traveled to Salzburg, Austria. We arrived just as the sun was setting, so it was a perfect time to head to the Christmas markets. Christmas markets are definitely more magical at night. View of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, and old town of Salzburg, from the river. Salzburg street

This was actually from a market at a small town near Salzburg.

Small town street. The next morning, we headed back to the old town into the fortress itself. Wonderful view of Salzburg, though my family is blocking most of it.
I couldn't seem to get Christopher adjusted correctly with all the layers. He wanted to look around, so ended up almost flipping out of the carrier. Yeah, it looks awful. It was not comfortable for me. I doubt for Christopher, either. Salzburg was just beautiful. We enjoyed seeing a bit of the city.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but I went with my parents on the "Sound of Music" tour. It was really kind of lame, especially when it's just about the filming of the movie, rather than the actual history. Plus, Allen and Ashlyn spent the afternoon at a park (Ashlyn is still talking about the BIG slide) and went on a carriage ride. I definitely did not win. But for those of you who are interested, this is one of the homes used in the exterior shots for the movie.

Here's another one of the homes used in the exterior shots. (All interior shots were done in Hollywood.)

This is one of my favorite photos from the afternoon. Nothing to do with SoM or Salzburg, but it's a cute one of my mom and son.
Even though the tour itself wasn't great, we still saw some beautiful places that we wouldn't have if not for the tour (we traveled by rail.)

Of course, we couldn't manage to travel without some kind of goofy story. While we were on the train, Ashlyn said that she needed to potty. My mom was going to take her, but Allen mentioned that she might not know how to use the automatic doors on the wc. Well, apparently, neither did I. This wc opened directly into a seating area, rather than a hallway. So, as I closed the door, and attempted to lock it, over and over (the buttons to open/close/lock the door are on a different wall than the door,) several young men were watching me. One of them attempted to show me how to use the door. As my face was getting redder with each time it opened, I finally decided to give up. I grabbed Ashlyn's hand and started walking, through two different cars. At one point, I heard a few laughs, but was already so embarrassed that I didn't turn around. Finally, at the second car, someone laughed and stopped me. They then pointed to Ashlyn. Apparently, when we went into the first wc, Ashlyn was getting ready to use the toilet. She had already pulled her pants part way down. Her butt had been hanging out while we walked through two cars. Of course, we had to walk back through these cars to get to our seats.

I love this post! I love the story of the wc on the rail. That is a good one. The photos are great...even the one with Christopher all lop-sided. And, I love that jacket you are wearing. Looks warm, cozy yet very stylish. My favorite photos are of the horse carriages....of course cause I love horses. So great to see the big ones in their native countries. They are so beautiful. And I totally recoginze the homes from SoM. Love the second photo. I would have fallen for the tour too. Keep posting cause this is my way of "seeing" Europe. Love it and thanks for sharing.

You're killing me, Angie. Sometimes I think you guys need a reality crew following you around. You're all so photogenic, yet so story-prone. :)

I love your coat, too. Super cute. And oh what I would give to have seen you dragging Ashlyn through the train with her bum hanging out. But what gets me, is she never said anything. Too funny!

I don't feel so bad about my secretary notifying me that my pant leg was tucked into my sock this morning. :)
